Thinking Is for Dipshits: Why Your Brain Is the Dumbest Part of Your Body

Unpopular opinion: your brain is the dumbest part of your body.

Hear me out.

Your brain does two things. It recognizes patterns, and it keeps you safe. That's it. That's the whole job description.

And safe is another word for shrinking. Safe is another word for dying slowly. Sure, you survive. But you do not thrive. Not through your brain.

Here's why. Your brain is a prediction machine. Everything it knows comes from the past. And the only thing the past has proven is that whatever you did yesterday kept you alive today. So the brain's conclusion is simple: do that again. Do exactly that again.

Which is why you can know, with total clarity, that one path is better for you, and still find yourself walking the other one. Over and over.

You know eating well is good for you. So why does the junk food keep winning?

You know the gym is good for you. So why do you keep skipping it?

You know starting your day early, getting sunlight, sitting in silence for ten minutes, being grateful for what you have, is what you should be doing. Your brain knows all of this.

So what tells you not to?

Your brain does. Because those neural pathways have been carved so deep, over so many years of repeating the same thing, that it's literally all your brain knows how to do. Your brain knows what to do. It has no idea how to do it. The rest of your body is what has to teach it.

That's the whole point. Your brain is the dumbest part of you because every other part of you is telling you the truth.

Your brain is the one pulling you back to safety. Your brain is the one telling you what might happen, what could happen, what the odds say. Your brain wants to analyze and worry and predict and run the numbers one more time until you've thought yourself straight into paralysis.

Your heart doesn't do that. Your heart just knows.

Your body doesn't do that either. It talks to you through your nervous system, through your breath, through how you're standing, through what your face is doing, through the tension you're carrying around in your shoulders. Your body tells you when something isn't right. And it's never wrong about that.

So even when your heart knows the right path, even when your spirit knows, your brain is the only part of you that drags you back to the same fucking thing you've been doing for years. The thing that hasn't made you happy. Hasn't made you fulfilled. Hasn't made you healthy. Hasn't made you anything except alive.

That's the only thing your brain does. It keeps you alive. And in doing that, it keeps you from actually living. From experiencing everything life has to offer. From moving forward.

Because progress is always uncomfortable. Progress means doing something new, or doing something different than what you've done before. It has to be new. It has to be different. There is no other kind of progress.

And your brain hates new. Your brain hates different. Your brain likes comfortable. Your brain likes familiar. Even when comfortable and familiar are the exact things you know are killing you, your brain will still steer you right back into them. Because they kept you alive before, and that's the only scoreboard it reads.

So let me say it a little harsher.

Thinking is for dummies. Thinking is for dipshits. Thinking is for the scared. Thinking is for the weak. Thinking is for the unprepared, because if all you ever do is think, you will never be prepared.

The only thing that prepares you is action. The only thing that prepares you is experience. The only thing that will ever make you feel ready is doing the thing.

Think about a cold plunge. You cannot outsmart the cold. You cannot analyze your way through it. You can read every article, watch every video, learn every breathing technique, and at the end of all that research you still have to get in the fucking tub and sit there. There is no shortcut around the discomfort. Only through it.

Such is life.

Which is why, over the last couple of years, I've done everything I can to turn my brain the fuck off.

What does that actually mean? It means I follow my heart. I follow my body. It means I'm aware. I'm present. I'm here. Not in the past. Not in the future. Right here, right now. The only thing that was ever real in the first place.
